Hey everyone, it's time to boost my workstation's memory. Right now I have two 8GB DDR Vengeance (1333MHz) sticks on an MSI Z97-G43. That means I'm stuck with DDR3 and 32GB at 3000MHz. The system is having trouble handling memory, but the CPU (4790k) and GPU (1080Ti) are still in good shape. Doubling my RAM wouldn't help much since it's already slow. For the price of four 8GB DDR3 modules, I'm questioning whether a new motherboard and switching to DDR4 is worth it. What do you think? Just a note: I work in design, so I don’t render videos or models but deal with huge Photoshop and vector files all day, often pushing performance to the limit. I might have even tried installing Chrome once.

You receive another 2x8 package, resulting in 32 gigabytes. For transitioning to another service, if you require additional performance, wait for Zen 3 and evaluate its features before making a decision.

It's challenging to determine the optimal choice for your needs. If your system requires more than 32GB, you'll need to upgrade the platform. However, if your CPU performs well, sticking with DDR3 might be sensible. Keep in mind that DDR3 is currently more costly than DDR4, particularly at speeds above 1600Mhz. If the price of 32GB DDR3 matches or exceeds the cost of a complete upgrade, consider a full system refresh.

Hey everyone, thanks a lot for the comments—it helps a bit. I might save some money now by using what I already have and focus on improving the platform later. Also, checking if I can boost my memory performance could be a good idea. Thanks again!
