You already have a laser printer that has its own Wi-Fi connection built in, so do you even need a separate router? If you don't, just plug your printer into the router with an Ethernet cable. That way, everyone on the network can print without extra work or worrying about turning things off and on again.
I've tried plugging in the ethernet wire, but I think the printer's port is broken. The router isn't seeing my device. My cord is definitely brand new too.
Do you want to make a new router or fix one that is already made? To check your computer, open Command Prompt and type "ipconfig /all" (don't worry about the quotes). Then paste those results here. For the printer, look at its settings page. Is there an IP address and subnet mask mentioned? Do they say if it connects via cable or wireless? Does their MAC address appear on this page?
I am trying to connect my printer using the Netgear Nighthawk R7000, but it does not show up on the screen list. When I run command ipconfig in Windows, here are some details: My computer name is Jon-PC and my network type is Hybrid. IP Routing is turned off, but WINS Proxy is also off. There are no unknown adapters or securelines on this setup. The physical address for my Ethernet adapter Killer E2200 looks like 40-8D-5C-E4-11-D2. DHCP is enabled and autoconfiguration is yes, which means it gets settings automatically. My IP address is 192.168.1.6 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and I got the lease on Tuesday August 1st at noon but I need to renew it by Thursday August 3rd at 8:30 AM. My default gateway is 192.168.1.1, so when my computer tries to talk to other networks it goes there first. The DNS server is also 192.168.1.1 and NetBIOS over Tcpip is turned on. This all looks normal for now but the printer just isn't showing up anywhere.
Run a command like "ipconfig /all". If that shows IPv6 is on, you should turn it off. Then check if your printer appears.
Think about this: if you reset your router (a factory reset), all your current settings go back to their default values. That means your login name and password are gone too. Make sure you have a copy of the Nighthawk's User Guide/Manual, either as a hardcopy or saved on your computer for later use.
I finally got it working. As I said before, I can't get into the router page. It asks for security questions but won't let me give them in. There is a great phone app to change settings, but it doesn't open up advanced options. So I really needed to get into the router from my PC and restart the router. I waited until this weekend to do that. In the meantime, I noticed one of my computers has two Ethernet ports on the motherboard. So I plugged the printer into the second port. It was set as a second connection, and now I can print from the computer it's connected to. Then I bridged those two connections, so the whole network can use the printer, including our Win 11 laptop. Thanks everyone for helping me fix this really annoying problem.
I found the Router page now. If you say Disable IPv6, where exactly do you want me to turn it off? In the router settings under Advanced, there is an tab called IPv6. When I clicked that tab, it took me to a page about Internet Connection type and it is currently turned off. Are you asking if I need to disable IPv6 in the settings of my desktop ethernet adapter instead?
