I'm experiencing some issues with Windows 10. It seems like the system is gradually failing and may stop functioning altogether soon. I'm using a legitimate Windows 10 Pro version that was originally installed from a physical DVD, not an online source. I don't want to be advised on purchasing it legally. This is my second update from Windows 7; everything worked fine before today but suddenly stopped working. Programs won't launch, like MSI Afterburner won't start. It appears in Task Manager as running, but I can't access it and my OC's GPU settings aren't being applied. Installation of new programs has become impossible. I tried launching Arkham Knight after the update, but since I haven't started it after reinstalling Windows 7 and updating to Windows 10, the setup process froze at step one and never progressed. I waited over 30 minutes without any progress. After attempting a manual install of the game's required files, it prompts to uninstall or repair, but it just hangs indefinitely. I've tried both options for more than 30 minutes with no results. I searched online and found the problem might relate to automatic updates in Windows 10, which can't be disabled. I've found a workaround by deleting certain files, and the game runs normally then. However, I'm frustrated because everything isn't working properly... I'm considering reverting back to Windows 7 since it functioned well before, but I need it to work correctly now. If you think about it, a clean installation might be necessary, though I've already tried that and it refused to activate.

Interesting. I performed a fresh installation right after the upgrade and enabled it immediately on both my desktop and laptop. Have you attempted to clean Windows using its built-in cleanup tool? (It essentially wipes everything without needing a full reinstall) Also, try adwcleaner -jrt to eliminate any residual 7-version drivers left behind after the upgrade.

I haven’t used those cleaner tools before, and I’ve had issues with them. That’s why I haven’t tried it, and I won’t either. I don’t believe it will fix the problem. I might consider a fresh install instead before going back to Windows 7. The FPS from my OC is still low, so I’m hoping someone can explain what’s causing this.

A clean install means starting with a fresh setup, removing all previous files and configurations to ensure a pristine environment.

Downloading the ISO, inserting it onto a USB stick, wiping all drives, rebuilding them and then setting up Windows 10. Thought there were different ways to do this.

The issue persists even after a fresh setup, suggesting a hardware problem. These signs align with a failing hard drive. You can perform a chkdsk scan here: http://windowsinstructed.com/run-chkdsk-windows/

Well, the system uses an SSD, which is okay. I checked all the other HDDs too, and everything looks good. No issues detected. I was a bit concerned at first.

Just made no changes, but today the afterburner came back online unexpectedly Huh. I still don’t understand what’s happening… edit: programs are reinstalling too… it’s really strange.
