I never added a profile photo to my WhatsApp account. My friend messaged me and sent a picture of my profile with a selfie, but when I checked the settings it didn’t show up. Why would that happen?

I used a black image and my friend thought it looked black. I changed the settings to hide my profile picture, but the picture is still visible. If I turned it off completely, how can my face show up?

They probably played a joke on the iPhone, letting them alter the profile picture by the end, but only they could see it. I wasn’t aware of that.
