I’m considering a PC storage upgrade and have some concerns about compatibility. You’re thinking about two different setups: keeping your current configuration or switching to a new NVMe drive. There’s also the added idea of including an extra HDD for quick access to video files, which raises questions about system image stability. Your worry about changing drive types—especially since NVMe and SATA have different interfaces—is valid. I’m unsure if altering the drive layout or adding new components will break your Windows installation. Given how important your system image is, you’re right to want peace of mind. Would it help to explore options that maintain the same drive arrangement or test a minimal change first?
It’s a full image of everything made through the windows 10 backup and restore “create a system image” function. I have individual files as well, but they have a tendency to cause issues when not applied via an entire backup.
I view the Windows image backup as useless, I've struggled to recover consistently from any version. According to what I know, it only functions with identical settings; altering anything will break it. Particularly when additional drives are involved, not just the operating system in the backup. Opt for reliable third-party tools instead.
