Hi everyone, I'm trying to figure out if my 4K TV can work well for most desktop work and some video watching. I have a GTX 660, which unfortunately doesn't support 4K at 60Hz. It only handles 4K with limited color options and a maximum refresh rate of around 24-30Hz, making it unsuitable for regular desktop tasks. However, I read that my iGPU (Intel HD 530, Skylake, i5 6500) could theoretically reach 4K at 60Hz. I attempted to use it, but the highest resolution I could get was 3840x2160 at 30Hz. Since my TV supports 4K60, it works on my FireTV, so the issue isn't with the TV. I also checked the motherboard specs (Asus E-170E) but didn't find any details about HDMI capabilities. It might be that my cable isn't high-speed certified, or it could be due to the HDMI port not fully supporting 4K60. I'm not sure if I should invest in a new cable or if my setup is okay. Anyone have suggestions? Also, I'm using Ubuntu MATE with kernel 5.7.
Based on my observations, a cable won't prevent you from selecting the desired option—it simply won't function. If it shows a black screen, the issue likely lies with your motherboard's HDMI port, not the cable itself. Since your TV and iGPU support it, the problem is probably with the port's compatibility.
The manufacturer's site mentions Intel HD Graphics support for integrated graphics. It also states compatibility with HDMI at a maximum resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels at 24 Hz.
