Previously today, I replaced my power supply unit. For a short time everything seemed normal, but soon I noticed one of my 480GB WD SSDs was acting oddly. When launching Windows, everything looked okay—drive detected, initialized, and working properly. The real trouble comes when trying to access the data. File explorer displays similar results, and all files seem present. Opening anything triggers an error saying "A device that does not exist was specified." Running chkdsk reveals the format is raw, not NTFS, and a disk management scan also shows the file system as raw/unrecognized. Using either tool can cause Windows to stop recognizing the drive until I restart my computer. As I wrote this, the problem appears resolved, which makes things even more confusing, since it rules out my corruption theory. All data remains intact. I’m certain the SATA power is correct, and my boot drive shares the same cable. It might be the connector at the end, but my BIOS doesn’t seem to have any issues with the drive. I haven’t found a reliable replacement data cable yet, though I’m testing it now. I don’t think this is the main issue, because the cable worked perfectly on another drive. The data and power connectors look fine. Any suggestions or insights would be appreciated, as I’m quite puzzled. Clearly I made a mistake, but I have no idea what it was. There’s nothing essential damaged—just a few games and tools are missing, so I don’t need help recovering anything. If anything changes or new information comes to light, I’ll post an update.

I’ve lost all the capacity to reproduce the problem. If this continues, I’ll consider it resolved. Still no understanding of what’s happening.
