Check the computer case for the wireless adapter. See if it’s connected to a PCIe card or an M.2 slot on the motherboard. The type of CPU—AMD or Intel—doesn’t affect this.

It seems the PCI-1_2 slot is connected. I couldn't capture a clear view inside the case, but I've included a photo from the motherboard with the highlighted area.

Before purchasing a new adapter, follow these steps: download the Realtek driver for both WLAN and BT, remove the existing version and install the new one. Check responsiveness during games. Perform a wireless survey with WiFi Analyzer. Share screenshots of channel analysis from both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Post your router settings page (hide passwords) for review. This helps identify possible optimizations.

Thanks for the quick response. The Asus PCE-AC68 have performed well for about a year. No issues reported with the card, and it’s not the priciest option either.

I looked at the driver information for your card—it showed the driver date as 2019. I’m not sure if that’s when it was installed or just the registration date. The sites you linked only go up to 2017, so I’m wondering if it’s still relevant to download. Second, the Wi-Fi analyzer didn’t give a clear rating at 5GHz; I’m not sure how to fix that. I’ve attached screenshots of your router settings and my post about this. Please let me know what you think!

Windows Update aims to add newer drivers from its records, but you should be fine with installing manufacturer-provided ones. First, ensure you're on a stable 2.4GHz network—possibly overlapping with another device’s signal. This can lead to occasional slowdowns in your WiFi performance. You haven’t specified the router or gateway model, so I can’t confirm if it supports 5GHz. If your device has a 5GHz band available, consider switching to it for better speed. However, it’s wise to set the router to use a less congested channel, as multiple signals on channel 36 may cause interference.

it's a fios g1100 model that appears in my search results. it supports 5GHz according to what I've found online, and my network info shows I'm on the 5GHz band. I switched the channel to 36, and the router lists more available channels. I'm wondering if I can connect to any of those without other signals interfering, or if the grayed-out options aren't usable. Update: on the devices page there are three devices using the 5GHz connection—two are my doorbell and phone. After switching to channel 36, I ran a speed test and got speeds well above 100 Mbps, which is impressive compared to the previous 30-40 Mbps range. I'm planning to play a game soon to see how the latency feels. Also, do devices on the 2.4GHz network affect performance on the 5GHz side? We have many gadgets on the 2.4GHz band.

The wireless device can identify or employ capabilities beyond the usual range, though the gateway sets the limits for usage. It operates on a completely separate frequency.

I believe changing the channel fixed all my problems! I didn’t encounter any latency issues last night, and my phone connection is even stronger now. I’m experimenting with various channels, but everything seems smooth so far. I’ll probably consider switching routers in the future to improve connectivity overall. Thanks a lot for your support and understanding! You really saved me a lot of stress by helping me figure this out.
