For protection against malware, definitely use M-bam (MalwareBytes). Anti-virus isn't essential unless you're not careful and don't scan regularly. However, AVG works well as a free option.

I wouldn't use Norton, McAfee, AVG, or Total Defense. Kaspersky, Sophos, and avast! (paid edition) are the only options I'd think about. Right now, I'm using Malwarebytes Premium for the first time on this machine—it's the antimalware I've ever bought before.

The issue with AVG is not specified in your message. Could you clarify what exactly is going wrong?

Experienced with many problems using it. We track which antivirus solutions customers use, and AVG ranks second, trailing only McAfee. Total Defense follows closely, while Norton consumes a lot of system resources.

Malwarebytes is generally considered a solid option, though not the most powerful. AVG performs reasonably well. Windows Defender contributed some protection, but it wasn’t the main focus. Enjoy your updated setup!

I used to suggest this, but Avast seems to have issues on its own. It blocks anything it identifies as malicious without hesitation. Once, I got hit by several games and was really upset. It's adjustable, I know, but it can be frustrating sometimes.
