I just acquired the Ryzen 7 5800x. It’s performing well but getting quite warm. Running Cinebench for ten minutes pushes temperatures up to 90°C, yet it doesn’t throttle. The clock speed sits near 4.470 MHz. I’m using a balanced Windows power plan and have an Alphacool Eisbaer 360 with fans spinning around 1700 RPM. Idle temps are about 33-35°C, while my room stays between 18-20°C. I’m running the latest BIOS on an Asrock X570 Taichi motherboard inside a NZXT H710 case. When playing games like Battlefield 5, it doesn’t reach 90°C but draws around 1,385 volts. Is this normal? Should I lower the temperature settings? Thanks for your advice!
Hi there, newcomer. I came across this discussion while searching earlier and had to create an account and reply. That’s typical for a 5800X. It has a TDP of 105W, but even at stock it can reach up to 140W when boosted if permitted. My 5800X will also reach close to 90°C during Cinebench under my Hyper 212 Black Edition in push/pull mode. Keep in mind, Cinebench doesn’t fully reflect real-world performance. As long as the CPU isn’t throttling and stays between 65°C to 70°C during typical daily tasks, there’s no cause for concern.

I own a 5800x in a compact case. It was a few hours of Cyberpunk using an NH-L12S. It's a compact downwind style cooler. Once back home, I plan to tweak the undervolts to check if I can reach a slightly cooler setting. They tend to get very hot though. Spoiler alert!
It’s best not to let your CPU reach such high temperatures for long periods. Running it hot regularly can shorten its life, though it might still last until you upgrade again—probably if you refresh every five years or so. You could also adjust your BIOS settings or use Ryzen Master to fine-tune the turbo settings, making them less aggressive than the default. Another option is to set up a more moderate all-core overclock, which will raise idle temps but lower them during heavy use.
