Today I powered on my PC and began playing Tarkov mid. A clicking noise was heard, then the machine went dark. It attempted to restart but failed to boot. At that point, I noticed a burning smell and shut off the power supply immediately. The GPU came out and showed signs of burning. It’s an RX 2060 from last year. I verified all other components and they seemed normal. I used the warranty on my graphics card, but if I return it or replace it, will the issue recur? Could it be related to the power supply? What should I do next? My specs: GPU – RX 2060, CPU – i3 10th gen, PSU – EVGA 650BQ, storage – WD Blue SSD, RAM – 16GB G.Skill Aegis Kit, motherboard – Gigabyte Z490 UD.
I really don’t understand what’s going on, but the smell of burned plastic might mean the system got too hot or a cable touched a very hot part and melted. To be sure, let’s collect more details that could help others figure out the problem. Do you have another GPU available, or could someone lend you one to test if everything is still working? It’s possible your whole PC could be affected. (That’s why I’d avoid using an F CPU.)
I don’t have another GPU or someone to borrow one from. I’ve inspected all the parts and everything looks okay—PCIe slots, power cables, and the connectors appear intact. The power supply has a 24-pin connector with just a single wire between two pins; it mentions testing could assist in diagnosing issues. This might help you check if the system is receiving power correctly.
