It began after my brother installed NFS heat via a cracked site. I removed all files from that site, yet my Forza Horizon 5 frame rate dropped from 100fps to just 20. The temperature was 89°C at the time, which seems impossible since it was capped at 86°C when I first bought it. I tried ray-tracing before it reached the 86°C limit. After resetting my laptop with the "keep my files" setting, the issue persisted.

If the issue relates to software, it might involve a crypto miner. A fresh installation would be better than keeping your files. How long has this laptop been used? Have you ever replaced the thermal paste inside?

The laptop is one year old, and the crypto miner was removed before, but it's no longer listed in Task Manager. The thermal paste hasn't been changed.

Consider performing a fresh installation of the system. It might be concealed within certain processes or applications. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, and you have a warranty, forward the device to the manufacturer. Explain the symptoms, including temperature readings, and see if they can identify any cooling problems.

It seems the issue isn't related to software, likely a cooling problem with the laptop. The +3°C difference might not be significant, but the room temperature could have been higher. Try cleaning the laptop to eliminate dust.

I performed a fresh setup but the frame rate remains low. I’ll clean it up and check again.

88 C° represents the highest safe temperature for that GPU. Operating continuously at 86 C° is extremely harmful; it may cause a significant FPS drop without noticeable performance loss, but prolonged exposure will quickly damage the hardware. At 86 C° you can maintain stable frame rates, though the risk remains high. Once the temperature reaches 88 C°, expect a drastic decline in performance as you noted from 100 to 105 degrees. Ideally, keep the GPU at least 10°C below its maximum limit for long-term health. In practice, laptop GPUs tend to overheat more under stress, especially if the cooling system is already strained. If your room temperature exceeds 30°C, this can also become a concern, particularly during peak summer months. At such ambient conditions, even high-end cases and desktops struggle to maintain adequate cooling, making it unlikely to sustain performance.
