Hey there, I'm Reuben. I'm still getting used to computers and stuff because I'm just 14. My uncle made this PC for me, but I think it has some old parts and the CPU isn't doing great. I checked a benchmark here: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/28513586. Anyone want to help me upgrade my setup? My rig has: Intel Core i7 X 990, Nvidia GTX 1060, 6GB RAM, Samsung 830 SSD, WD Red 2TB, and Asus Rampage III Extreme.

Userbenchmark lacks consistent reliability due to factors like overclocking in many systems, especially with older x series chips. Your setup isn't marked for overclocking.

make sure the SSDs are connected to the 3.0 ports, not the 2.0 ones. boost the CPU and GPU performance.

If you're facing issues in games, it's a known problem. A solid cooler and a gentle overclock might help improve performance. Just to emphasize how inconsistent the data is, your machine uses an i7-990X—there isn't an i7-X990 model.

The CPU-Z section displays details about Intel’s built-in features. Engineers referred to this processor as the X 990, while marketing preferred the name 990X. Userbenchmark simply extracts these specifications directly from the chip. It seems Intel caused some mix-up. The Intel X58 chipset only supported SATA 2.0, not the newer SATA 3.0. The two SSD connections use slower SATA 2.0 ports, which is why performance is lagging and the drives appear nearly full. Only two SATA 3.0 ports are available on the board, supplied by a Marvell controller—uncertain if they can be used for booting. This machine houses more hard drives than fast SATA 3.0 slots, limiting options for improvement. @Rawben suggests watching YouTube tutorials to learn overclocking; Intel’s Extreme CPUs have an unlocked multiplier, making it simple to boost speed. Adjust the BIOS CPU multiplier to 30 and you can reach around 4.0 GHz. With practice, you can achieve closer to 4.5 GHz without too much hassle. These chips are excellent for understanding computers and experimenting with overclocking, yet still deliver solid results given their age.

Thanks for the support! I’ll figure out how to overclock with your water cooling setup. Stay tuned!

I also attempted to link them to the SATA 3.0 ports, but many issues arose, likely related to the boot drive.

Have you tried getting feedback from others about your motherboard's overclocking? It might be useful to ask for guidance.

The response points toward a "yes" answer, though I’m not convinced. There are likely detailed step-by-step guides on YouTube and clear explanations of the process. Trying to act without knowing what you’re doing often leads to mistakes, so reviewing both types of content first could save time and confusion for everyone, including yourself.

I just set the multiplier to 30 and now these outcomes are much better. Thanks to everyone for their support—it really helps! This community is great. Edit: the temperatures during gameplay are now maxed at 60°C, which seems perfect.
