Hey there! Over the past year I've been using an R7700X+4070+32Gb 6000hz at 1080p, mostly with minor problems mainly from corrupted drivers. I didn’t really focus much on my frames in AAA titles—they usually stayed around 70-100 FPS without DLSS. But when I tested Helldivers 2 with a friend running an R7 5700x+3060 12Gb, we saw about twice our normal frame rate (75-90 FPS) at high or ultra settings. That surprised me, since I expected my system to struggle more. I checked everything: drivers are up-to-date, temps stay below 75°C during games, CPU and GPU usage look normal, XMP is enabled. Still, I’m puzzled. Anyone have a clue why my performance seems higher? Thanks! -JF
It's tough to understand anything without proper information: game details, configuration, FPS, CPU and GPU activity along with clock readings.
Here I compiled additional detailed statistics: Every match runs at 1080p with 144hz on a single monitor setup, no Ethernet connection. Cyberpunk 2077 – All configurations set to High, Ray Tracing active at medium, DLSS turned off. Achieves 60-70 FPS, 1% lows at 50, CPU usage around 60%, GPU usage near 95%, CPU temperature 77°C, GPU 65°C. Hogwarts Legacy – All settings High, Ray Tracing medium, DLSS off. Performance is 50-80 FPS, 1% lows at 45 (drops to 1% at 25 FPS in busy areas), CPU usage 35%, GPU usage 80%, temperatures 76°C and 63°C respectively. I believe the hardware utilization numbers are unusual; likely the frame drops stem from the game rather than just system performance. RDR2 – In-game benchmark test, all settings High, DLSS off. Consistent 122 FPS with 1% lows at 70 (average throughout). CPU 50%, GPU 95%, temps 75°C and 65°C. Other titles causing noticeable lag are Fortnite (Wi-Fi might play a role), Ghost Recon Breakpoint (potential shader problems causing drops, under review), and Helldivers. Observing now, the situation doesn’t appear severely problematic except for HWL, which seems to need some adjustments. I’m not sure if I’m overanalyzing or just being cautious. Am I undervaluing the performance boost DLSS provides, especially on lower-end systems that seem to outperform me? I tend to get caught in loops and spiral into concerns, but if you’ve gone through this thoroughly, it doesn’t look like a bug-free experience. End of my notes – hope this helps! Have a nice day! -JF
