I recently assembled this system: GeForce RTX Galax 3070, Intel Core i5 12400F, ASUS TUF Gaming B660M-PLUS, D4 1x16 RAM, T-Force Corsair CV650W SSD, 128GB HD, 1TB. It’s a solid gaming setup, though I’m aware single-channel RAM isn’t ideal. With the 3070 and 1080p display, I’m experiencing extremely low frame rates in titles like Fortnite and Spider-Man. A useful test to check if the issue lies with the CPU is adjusting the resolution—shifting from 1920x1080 to 1366x768 makes no difference. My FPS remains poor despite the powerful processor. Can anyone offer guidance or a solution? I’m running out of options and considering warranty support. This was my first build.
Begin at two minutes. Your GPU and CPU are strong, but adding more RAM—especially two sticks—can boost CPU performance. *This means giving the CPU enough memory channels and data to process faster.* This should help improve overall speed. Hopes it works!
These games typically require more CPU power. Fortnite doesn't rely much on GPU, while Spiderman demands a lot from the CPU. My 10400F struggled with a 5500 XT in Fortnite, and I think it would be even worse with higher-end models. Check benchmarks for the 12400F and consider a 10-15% drop due to single-channel memory. If this aligns with your results, you're likely limited by CPU or RAM.
Let's discuss the figures then. Spider-Man has a very high preset, no ray tracing; it runs at 60-80 frames per second (about half GPU power and 80% CPU) compared to benchmarks on YouTube that reach 120 fps. DLSS doesn't affect performance here. With a very high preset and ray tracing, it drops to 40-50 fps (65-70% GPU and 85-92% CPU), matching the benchmarks around 60-90 fps. No change with DLSS.
In Fortnite, Epic Settings on DX11 gives 60 fps with VSync (stutters to 30) or around 80 with no VSync. FPS spikes occur at 75-85% CPU and 50% GPU. With Epic Settings on DX12, it's 60 fps (Vsync) or about 80 with VSync. Without VSync, it stays near 80. Still, spikes happen. GPU usage is 50% and CPU 75-85%.
GOD OF WAR uses Ultra Settings at 60 fps without stutters (60% GPU, 75-90% CPU). No impact from DLSS.
Take a glance at these numbers. About 90% GPU usage and 70% CPU load. They match my setup. Yet single-channel performance drops so much? In 2018 I used an 1050 TI with an 8GB RAM stick and it worked fine. I experimented with dual-channel—different RAM configurations, but no big change. Seems a few missing driver files might be the issue, though they don’t seem to matter much. I’ll give it another shot if needed.
Restarted the computer, launched Spider-Man... The performance is at its maximum, with no frame rate limits. Notice how the structures aren't displaying correctly—they load instantly right in front of me. It's running at 60 frames per second while I remain stationary atop a building. As soon as I start moving, it drops to around 40-30 frames per second.
I’m using YouTube clips to show examples, but downloading apps isn’t necessary. I’m curious how you’re checking if games are saved on a hard drive or SSD.
I’m unsure what alternative data sources to use since comparing many benchmarking videos and gaming sites consistently yields similar results.
All drivers I’ve managed to install—both GeForce Experience and Intel Driver Support Assistant 3—are already set up, and I’m moving it to HD storage because my SSD is too limited, while I don’t have the funds for a larger one right now.
