Edge appears to be the main issue. Other lighter browsers exist and consume fewer resources. Windows also seems to strain your CPU and RAM; there are tools to clean up or shrink its footprint significantly.

It seems your processor struggles when multiple apps are open. The i5-2400 is an older model with four cores and four threads, and its performance drops significantly under heavy multitasking.

Most prefer Chrome because it has improved significantly over time and performs well, especially on mobile devices. While I favor Firefox for personal reasons, the frequent updates bring some frustration. Still, it offers features that Chrome doesn't have, enhancing overall quality of life.

I can't access the Perfomance tab directly. Would you like me to guide you through checking your CPU clock speed manually?

Have you explored Firefox? Or consider giving the more modern Opera GX a try.

3.1Ghz is the factory recommendation so throttling isn't an issue. Consider using very lightweight browsers. Sorry, I don’t have my 2005~ laptop with a super light browser installed back then. That was years ago—just from what I remember and the photos, it was either Torch or Comodo Icedragon. Both are familiar. Try those again, though it’s probably too old; not sure if they’re still useful now. You might want to look for something newer as a replacement. By the way, you’ll need to clean your machine thoroughly just in case—startup apps and background programs can interfere.
