Your laptop is running slowly even when no apps are running. It doesn’t overheat, but performance drops significantly in games or creative programs. After checking with Armory Crate, it seems the CPU clock speed is only 800MHz, far below the recommended 2000MHz. Even when turbo mode activates, it doesn’t increase much unless you restart it several times. I’m looking for ways to improve its CPU performance. I own an ASUS TUF GAMING FX505GT with an I7-9750H GTX1650, 4GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD. The average CPU temperature is around 40°C during idle and 75-80°C during gaming. The BIOS is up to date, drivers for both Intel and NVIDIA are current, and no malware or viruses were found. I tried troubleshooting via "MyAsus" but didn’t see any CPU issues. The problem started two days ago, and I can’t visit the store easily because it’s far away. I need advice on fixing this myself.
Download ThrottleStop. If your CPU reaches 800 MHz, check the Limit Reasons window for red items. These show why throttling occurs. You might see a red BD PROCHOT signal indicating a sensor issue. Your CPU temp stays normal when it’s red. This suggests another sensor is involved. Such problems are common in some laptops. Try removing the BD PROCHOT setting from ThrottleStop’s main screen and test if your CPU reaches full speed. If it does, the issue is likely a sensor. Typically the BIOS is set to BD PROCHOT, but it doesn’t appear to be active. No adjustment needed for that setting. What do the FIVR and TPL windows indicate? PL1 represents the long-term turbo power cap. This is leading to throttling issues. The 9750H has a 45 Watt TDP rating. It’s likely the BIOS or some software on your machine has capped it at 5 Watts or less. This forces continuous PL1 throttling. Even at the lowest possible speed of 800 MHz, the CPU still tries to reduce its power draw below 5W. The Asus Armoury Crate software may be faulty. Are you running the most recent version? Occasionally Silent mode can lower turbo limits even further, but reaching 5W or less is excessive. Experiment with Windows, Silent, Performance, Turbo settings to see if speed returns. If issues persist, remove Armoury Crate and fully power off your system so the CPU can reset. After rebooting, if the problem continues, it may point to a BIOS fault. The only viable fix in ThrottleStop is using the FIVR – Disable and Lock Turbo Power Limits option. I reinstalled the armory crate. My CPU speed returns to the base clock, which is fine. However, when I launch a game it hits 800, and it drops back to base when I close it. Also, these are my FIVR and TPL. Any advice? Edit: I attempted to clear the BD PORCHOT setting but the issue persists.
In the TPL window, your turbo power restrictions are incorrectly configured. Both are set to 5W. Even a small load will trigger constant power throttling. I didn’t ask for these values to be 5W. The BIOS or Armoury Crate likely set them too low, possibly due to ThrottleStop settings. If you need to investigate further, exit ThrottleStop, remove the ThrottleStop.INI file, and restart your system. Hold the Shift key during shutdown to allow the BIOS to reset the CPU. After rebooting, run ThrottleStop again—it will generate a new configuration file. In the TPL window, verify the long and short turbo limits; they should default to 60W and 80W respectively. If your cooling isn’t sufficient, consider adjusting to 45W and 60W instead. This issue is unrelated to BD PROCHOT—your problem stems from power limit throttling. Disabling Turbo or checking the FIVR settings won’t resolve it.
Hi there. I faced the same issue but resolved it: first, download and execute Autoruns64 (https://download.sysinternals.com/files/Autoruns.zip), then turn off the ASUSSystemAnalysis service, and finally restart your system. Let me know if that works. I’ll send a report to ASUS.
