I purchased a new power supply and a Ryzen 5 2600x to upgrade my old components. When I powered on the PC, temperatures spiked significantly. I attempted various fixes—swapping the CPU cooler, changing thermal paste, updating the motherboard, and adjusting the GPU temperature settings. Despite these efforts, the CPU temperature remained high, causing the system to shut down after just a few minutes. The specs are: Gigabyte A320m-S2H Ryzen 5 2600x, AMD stock cooler RX 580, 4GB RAM, Corsair 550W 80+ PSU.
Are the CPU fans definitely rotating and can you access Windows?
Examine Thermal Grease to ensure it reaches the CPU. Occasionally this might cause a problem. Consider purchasing Arctic Silver 5 as a backup.
It's unlikely if the CPU is overheating the cooler isn't establishing proper contact. At default settings, this issue can't be caused by anything else. Take out the cooler and backplate, then place the PC face down on its back panel. Put the cooler directly onto the CPU without the backplate. Gravity should maintain cooling during idle (with thermal paste). If needed, gently press it in place.
