Hey, I just got my new gaming PC a few months back. It comes with a Ryzen 5 5600, an AsRock Phantom Gaming 6600XT OC Edition, 64GB RAM (Corsair sent me extra sticks by accident), MSI PRO B550M-VC, Wi-Fi SSD, and Samsung Evo 980 1TB. I’m not sure exactly when the problems started, but I’m seeing high CPU usage during games. Games like R6 used to run smoothly, but now they take 60-70% in menus and 90-100% while playing. My FPS has dropped noticeably, which is worrying. I’m not as tech-savvy as before—I’ve stepped back a bit from the tech side. Still, I checked temperatures and malware, and everything seems normal (CPU stays around 70°C). One thing that stood out was my PC running at about 3.9 to 4 GHz even when doing simple tasks, which isn’t ideal. Could this mean the CPU is drawing more power than it should? What should I do next? Thanks for your help
I’ll check the CPU first, then look at the processes section in Task Manager.
In the processes section, arrange them by highest CPU usage to lowest.
I have the images here showing it working while the game runs. As you can see, the CPU is near 100% but the game isn’t using much of it. These photos were taken when nothing was actually happening. Edited February 2, 2024 by NexyHours Added note about CPU not under load
