Hello, the paste has become very hard and forced the CPU out of its socket. It looks like your motherboard and CPU might be stuck together. No obvious signs of damage were noticed.

AMD socket/CPU compatibility? It's okay as long as no connections were broken. Just ensure the system runs a bit longer next time so the thermal paste stays flexible. You might gently loosen the heatsink to let it part from the CPU before removing it completely. Alternatively, detach the CPU from the heatsink (avoid dropping it or bending pins) and reinstall it onto the motherboard. This issue has affected AMD CPUs since the AM2 socket era.

Thanks! I'm sorry to hear that. You seem really upset.

I felt the exact same response when I pulled an Athlon 64 from its case the first time.

Using dental floss between the CPU and the cooler will serve you well.

Next time, give the cooler a light twisting motion back and forth before lifting it. The risky part happened on AM3 (or AM2 isn't sure) when the CPU got stuck and you pulled it out, causing it to fall off and harm the pins. I was able to fix it, but I was really sweating 😅.

I'm growing worried. The CPU indicator on my motherboard lights up when I power on the PC but fails to display properly. I don't know what this means.
