Hello, I own an old Dell PowerEdge 2950 with a RAID controller (perc 5/i), two Xeon processors, and 16GB RAM. I set up a NAS and storage for my Steam library and Plex. It's been running smoothly for over two years until it suddenly stopped booting, even after restoring the boot image from an SSD. The error photo is available. Someone mentioned using pcie_aspm, modifying the GRUB config or editing it during boot, but no success has been reported. I've tried Ubuntu Desktop and Server (versions 16 to 20) and CentOS 7 with similar results—briefly working then failing. I'm unsure what's causing this issue and don't know the best solution. Thanks for any help. Edited February 17, 2020 by alexribeirodesa
Your device or controller could be malfunctioning. Consider using another boot disk. A USB drive would also work as a temporary solution.
Yes, I managed it—there are two internal SATA drives, and the same problems occurred even without adding a RAID controller.
Restored the boot image again, encountered the same problem. First boot failed, but everything worked afterward. Then it stopped after a reboot.
