I was playing a game on my PC today when I noticed the computer getting really hot, around 74C. Usually, this doesn't happen because I keep the fans spinning at maximum speed. So I turned off the game and checked again; even while it's stopped working (idling), the temp only went down to about 65C. Then I tried restarting the PC to see if a program started causing this problem. The screen showed just my motherboard logo with a spinning circle, but Windows didn't start at all. It never got to the blue menu where you choose what to do next. I can actually get into the BIOS settings and everything looks fine there (my memory sticks and hard drives are recognized), but I cannot start up the computer through the normal boot process to finish loading Windows. Even though I tried using a USB stick with a tool called Media Creation Tool, nothing worked because of that screen. Right now, I am formatting that same USB stick using a program called Rufus, and choosing a different version of Windows 11 as my boot disk. I'm not sure if this will work at all. Any help would be really appreciated! My PC is an MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK XFX with an AMD Radeon RX6750XT card, running on an AMD Ryzen 9 5900x processor, and has 2x 8GB of Crucial Ballistix RAM. I also have a 600W PSU with a cooler called Hyper White from Cooler Master.
IT WORKED! Finally, I got rid of everything except my SSD and turned off every other thing before starting up the computer. That's probably what made it happen. Thanks to everyone who helped out here, even if just in small ways. I'm sure to buy a better power supply next holiday season. Thanks again!
Clear your computer's settings, take out one piece of memory stick, and see if it starts up from USB. If that doesn't work, try updating your BIOS chip (even though this probably won't help). If you still can't boot, your CPU or motherboard is likely broken, with the motherboard being more probable.
Did all that happen and nothing changed? I switched from UEFI to CSM in the BIOS and booted through the SSD with Windows installed. Somehow, the screen with the spinning circle and the MAG logo disappeared, leaving just a black screen with my mouse cursor. I am really confused about what happened and don't want this to be a hardware problem since I can go into BIOS. But how could a system restart suddenly turn like that?
If your computer is messed up, it can act weird in ways that are hard to explain. It's probably time for a fresh start now, right after saving all your important stuff. Just remember, your drive might still work at this point.
Even if I try to start using my computer by putting in a USB stick that had Windows installed, the dark blue screen shows up. I can't do anything except move my cursor around this screen. This is exactly the same thing you see when you have a clean install of the operating system, but there are no options for installation on this screen. Basically, all you see is just the dark blue background with nothing else.
You don't have to worry about the power supply unit. I have kept using this configuration for almost a year, and it has never broken down in my experience.
Power up time doesn't really matter if your power supply fails. Those little plastic balls inside dry out over time. Powering things on and off thousands of times wears them down fast. I always have a spare ready just in case something breaks. When you start fixing stuff, there is a proper order to follow. First look at the main part of the machine; that's where you should focus. The heart of this thing is actually your power supply.
