Hello everyone, over the last couple of days my PSU or hard drive has been producing clicking sounds. I’m not sure which one it is. My hard drive tends to click on and off randomly, and my PSU is from an unreliable brand. When I power down the computer, it makes a loud clicking noise right away. I have an RX 6659 XT OC with 16GB RAM and an AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4560G CPU, and my PSU seems to be around 600W. I’m not very tech-savvy, but I understand the basics—like how a failing PSU can cause the whole system to shut down. I really need some advice from you guys.

Clicking sounds are never nice! Is your hard drive the boot drive? (Windows is already installed there) If not, disconnect it completely and let your PC run normally. If those noises stop, it’s probably coming from your HDD. Make sure you back up your data from that drive! Don’t keep using it for important files—get rid of it. If the clicking continues, it’s likely your power supply unit is the issue. Replace it and avoid buying cheap ones. You might also try recording the sound to identify the problem better.

I’ll do it! But I didn’t say it clearly enough—clicking sounds really loud, much louder than before. Before, it was quieter. Also, the PC turns off instantly after I press shutdown, and there’s no Windows installed there. I’ll record a sample and send it or reply. Thanks for your help! Edited June 12, 2023 by Based CS

It’s a serious threat—this device is actively harming your system. Immediately stop using it. It poses a significant risk and could cause irreversible damage. Replace it with a reliable PSU, preferably a higher tier if possible. A budget option is available at the link provided.

Could this be the reason for the frequent BSoD occurrences or the hard drive issues? Appreciate the support!

Since I'm on a tight budget, here are some tips I can share. Please include screenshots from the PSU you discovered. If you have any other ideas (all listed examples are around 80+ standard), feel free to mention them. Any suggestion under 55 € would be great.
