Initially, my configuration was set up with a Ryzen 5600 ASUS ROG B550 gaming system featuring Wi-Fi II 4X8 DDR4 RAM at 3200 MHz, an RTX 3070 graphics card, a 750-watt PSU, and FSP cooling. I faced problems when turning off or putting the PC to sleep—it would fail to restart unless I cleared the CMOS. I suspected the PSU was the issue, so I swapped it for an EVGA model, which temporarily resolved the problem for a couple of days. Later, I upgraded the motherboard to an MSI X570, assuming that might be the root cause, but it didn’t fix the issue. Now I’m stuck deciding whether to replace the CPU, RAM, or investigate further. The process has become exhausting, requiring a 10-minute CMOS reset routine each time I need to work. It’s been months since then. Could you help?

Prepare all external gear, keep only display and keyboard. USB devices often create problems. Verify post codes using motherboard LED or 8-segment screen, or check onscreen. Prioritize: RAM > CPU > PSU. Perform rotation with new components. I know you’re short on supplies—next step is a POST test to confirm motherboard health. If it passes, swap cables or test connected devices for the cause. Multimeter inspection of the case is included if needed. Uncommon but I’ll add it. Could you share a list of your current hardware via PCPartPicker? This will help determine if my guidance addresses your situation. Sorry, no clear solution other than possibly replacing the CMOS battery, which won’t fully resolve the issue since the system should boot without it. Let’s move forward together.

Verify your power strip or wall outlet. Switch to another outlet if needed. Also turn off hibernation and fast boot.

I experimented with various setups, but nothing functioned consistently across different configurations. I swapped RAM sticks, used single or dual modules, replaced the CMOS battery on the new motherboard, and updated BIOS. After power loss, I toggled settings and reset CMOS, but results varied. Even after clearing CMOS, it didn’t always work. The only reliable method now is physically connecting the 24-pin connector to the motherboard and pressing the power button. This worked every time, even with older PSU units. Here’s a list of compatible parts: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/C8gbrM. I considered getting a new 5600 GPU, but it’s unclear if it’s worth the 180 CAD investment, especially given mixed results.

Are you working inside a case? Are motherboard standoffs secure? Make sure all connections are correct, particularly on the front panel. Can you inspect your CPU for bent or missing pins? If the CPU is the issue, prioritize getting a 5700X over a 5700X3D.

I just reinstalled Windows again, and now it powers on after a delay if I wait more than five minutes. It’s still inside its case, with no loose connections anywhere. The CPU was reinserted properly—no bent pins or issues in the socket. I’m not sure what will happen next.
