Hey there, I set up this PC about ten months ago with those specifications. The power supply began acting up around four months in, and even after replacing it with a new one, the system still worked. Recently, I installed Minecraft RTX and a fresh Windows update. Since then, whenever I play games like Fortnite or CS:GO, my performance drops to just 5 frames per second from the usual 240 FPS. Is this problem linked to the power supply, the Windows update, or something new in the update that’s slowing things down? My machine is powerful enough for these games, but the fans are spinning faster and making louder noise. Thanks for any advice you can give. Appreciate it!

Avoid low prices for a PSU, it's not worth it.

After purchasing the power supply, it functioned properly for a short time. There seems to be no clear method to resolve the lag spikes.

I experienced a problem yesterday and managed to fix it (played Valorant this morning without any issues, smooth 60fps). I have a similar setup but it's an older model, so this might be useful for you. (found on Reddit) Be careful not to run "Update all my drivers" – you're likely to encounter some unreliable software. I resolved it by turning off HPET in BIOS and using the CMD command: bcdedit /set useplatformclock false, which slightly improves performance. (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YssdyMOCLQ) Finally, disable Superfetch in the service manager by stopping the SysMain service. (see screenshot). My hardware: Ryzen 5 1400, GTX 970, Gigabyte AB-350-Gaming, 2x4GB 2666mhz Ballistix with CX550 PSU.

Thank you for coming in, I followed all your instructions and turned off hardware acceleration, VSync, and reset my PC. Spikes were still present, though at a lower frequency. I’ll attempt a Windows reinstall to check the situation. Thanks!

I also received some spikes, though it seems typical since I get one every few hours. Last night I experienced lag spikes lasting several seconds. Please update if you find anything helpful—I can only wish you good luck.

I reinstalled Windows, turned off VSync and now everything works at my usual speed. No jumps or overshoots. To get Minecraft RTX I had to download an online Windows update and I’m hoping no one else is doing the same or I’ll have to follow my approach. Thanks for your assistance!
