My computer experienced an unusual issue while I was using Mastodon. The screen would freeze repeatedly, eventually only showing one working display. It indicated a graphics card problem and suggested I restart. The AMD installer showed it was nearly complete, so I allowed it to finish. Later, it asked me to reboot again. Right after that, a loud grinding sound came from the machine, followed by a brief pause before it restarted. After several attempts, I force-closed the system until it powered down completely. Once back on, everything functioned normally. What just happened?

Review the SMART data from your two hard drives using CrystalDiskInfo. Capture the information with screenshots and share them here if you need assistance interpreting the results. Could a drive have experienced issues with its head positioning before powering off?

It's a classic xkcd moment: grinding noise often points to failing hard drives.
