I bought a Windows 10 Pro license years ago and used it regularly. After Windows 11 became fully available, I upgraded and kept using Windows 11 Pro for a while. Recently, I reset my PC as usual. When logging into my Microsoft account, it didn’t recognize the key and refused to activate. It showed an error: "Hardware changed – please check internet connection." The store redirected me to buy a new license but reported activation problems. I understand I can get cheaper keys from third-party sites, but I don’t want to spend money when I shouldn’t.

Consider reaching out to Microsoft directly. This issue seems to be on their end.

Enable Windows using the product code you bought (Windows 10 Pro). It should function properly. If issues persist, consult the "Get Help" app to connect with a Microsoft support representative (level 1). Describe your problem politely and receive an override code to activate. Possible reasons include hardware changes such as a new motherboard or frequent resets/installations of Windows. Missing drivers can cause activation to think the system is different, even if it isn't. Make sure Windows Update completed successfully and that no drivers are missing. Drivers should be current and properly installed via Device Manager—avoid generic or basic ones. Allow time for Windows to activate; sometimes it takes a few days. If you encounter the same error, try activating again after a short wait. If successful, go to Settings > System > Activation and use your key to complete activation. If needed, open the "Get Help" app for further assistance. It seems your Windows edition matches the key correctly (e.g., Windows 11 Pro), not a different version like Pro N or Home).
