I attempted to use Oculus with a link cable, it started working and played for more than half an hour before crashing with an error about Oculus Link. After checking GPU temperatures, they were normal, but the PC crashed due to an overcurrent on a USB device. I unplugged all USB devices and still receive the same error message, causing immediate shutdown. What should I do next?

It might be related to a faulty internal USB header. Have you removed any connections from your motherboard? Were you using the manufacturer's official cable?

Not an official report since my USB connection on my MBP isn't great, but I've been using it for a few weeks during intense gaming sessions. The only change this time was a noticeably higher GPU temperature than usual—typically staying around the mid-60s now.

Inspect every USB port for obstructions, as a metal object entering a connector can cause issues.

I removed the internal USB connectors and it remains non-functional.

Disconnect the power cable entirely from your PC and wait at least 10 seconds before reconnecting it. This can clear any active protection that stays enabled as long as the device is powered through its supply. Inspect the USB ports carefully—verify that all four pins or more remain intact without touching, and ensure no debris or foreign objects are inside the connectors that might disrupt the connection. Overcurrent happens when excessive power flows through a USB port, which could stem from a plugged-in device, a faulty pin contact, a damaged connector, or even a malfunctioning motherboard component triggering an incorrect power reading.

Check the parts on the motherboard up to my limit, only GPU and fans need testing.

I meant parts that provide power to the USB connections, tiny capacitors and resistors, resettable fuses, and ESD protection diodes on the motherboard. Exclude the CPU or graphics card—they’re unrelated to USB ports. You likely lack the skills and tools to inspect those components.

I don’t understand why, but swapping out the old internal WiFi card and plugging it back in restored everything for me.

Thanks for your input. Feel free to indicate your answer as your own if others face similar issues. It seems there might be a mix of USB protocol handling and power supply problems. The 5V output was weaker, possibly due to reduced amperage or faulty connections, leading to errors. I’ve experienced a similar situation where connecting via a power bank works fine, but rebooting still triggers the same issue because the power bank supports higher current draw.
