Your online connection slowed unexpectedly without any apparent cause.
I recently ran a Ookla speed test and got around 50 Mbps. Now I’m testing again and it’s only 20 Mbps for download, while upload stays the same. I notice a noticeable difference, especially since I’m streaming Valorant with high ping.
Check your network's activity for unusual bandwidth usage. Ookla monitors overall traffic to ensure fair access. Have you recently reset your modem, router, or computer?
Open Task Manager, navigate to the Performance section, then check the internet area. Use available apps to monitor your Wi-Fi activity. Visit your App Store and search for Wifi Test or comparable tools. Restarting by power cycling—switching it off for about 5 to 10 seconds before turning it back on—can help. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, consider performing a factory reset on the modem or router. Since you didn’t specify, it seems you haven’t altered your internet plan or had others notice changes.
No one altered the internet plan. I can't restart the router now because my sister is in class. I tried power cycling by using the PC for about 20 minutes ago. I checked the performance tab and clicked Ethernet, but the app usage stats aren’t showing clearly.
The only possibilities I have are network activity nearby or an internet plan adjustment. Unless one of these is happening, contact your ISP for a check.
Do you connect via Ethernet or Wi-Fi? A nearby user's sudden heavy use of their Wi-Fi can easily affect yours.
