Sorry to say but these people are wrong. MS have said your 7, 8 or 8.1 key will be upgraded to a 10 key during the upgrade process so you can recover it after the upgrade if you want to clean install. There's no way MS will allow 10 to activate with a key from an older version, that's just dumb. To get 10 retail (not Pre release) you'll have to upgrade from a previous version to 10 at least once so your key is converted to a 10 key. If your on the Insider Preview already your old key will not work on it. Besides that it appears they're going to handle Insider activation from your Microsoft account and not a key, I'm gonna bet that Insider versions of Windows won't take keys at all, they've already said you'll need to have your MS account tied to your Windows account permanently as well as be signed up to the insider program for your activation to remain genuine. Of course this is all speculation, no one knows for sure how they'll wing the preview program until it drops next month but there's simply no way they'll allow an 8 key to activate 10.
