i chose to upgrade by getting more 8gb sticks and bought the same model as before. after installing, i noticed it runs at 2400mhz instead of the expected 3200. despite adjusting xmp, speed, voltage, and timings, the system keeps rebooting to default. my old setup was hyperx furry rgb ddr4 3200mhz cl16, now i’m trying to get it to support 32gb at 3200mhz normally. my motherboard is an msi b450 gaming plus with a ryzen 5 2600x.
Using four RAM sticks at maximum performance isn't the solution. You'll need to either manually increase their speed or operate at a slower setting. A 3000MHz frequency could be viable, or you might consider purchasing a 16X2 configuration and running it at its optimal speed.
I attempted to run it at 2800Mhz but it didn’t work. The best options are using two 16GB sticks or manually overclocking RAM. If you need help, look for guides or videos that walk through the process.
The XMP setting is mainly for boosting performance, so I don’t need to be overly concerned. The additional RAM upgrade you installed already improves your system’s speed significantly, which makes any XMP benefits negligible. Yes, it might work if it does, but in everyday use and games the difference is usually imperceptible. Plus, a PC with XMP enabled tends to run more smoothly compared to one without it.
