I just assembled my first computer and everything looks fine except for the internet connection. I've tested Wi-Fi, Ethernet linked to my router, and connected my phone via USB. Occasionally I manage around 30 Mbps, but it drops back to about 1 Mbps quickly. I haven't changed my phone data settings, yet I still get that speed. Why isn't my PC delivering the expected performance?

Is there anything else in your home that experiences this issue?

At first they worked. However, after resetting my router, most of my PC improved. I’d grasp the speeds I needed, but achieving them for just a short time and then dropping back was confusing.

I've tested Wi-Fi, used USB-C and Ethernet cables, but the Xbox still had fast downloads with the same cable.

I can't provide actual speed test results, but I can help you interpret them or guide you on how to check your own speed.

Phone works best when Wi-Fi is active, PC functions well via Ethernet, same outcome with Wi-Fi or tethering. Steam is attempting a download on the PC.

Alright and it's plugged directly into the router with ethernet cable? It could look like it's a problem with your ISP. 204 ms ping and 110 jitter is certainly not good. Are you running a switch between devices? Otherwise I would contact your ISP @B-rock 2.9MB/s is around full speed though, so steam can utilize your connection fully.

Thanks for your feedback. It really opened my eyes about download speeds. I’m new to all this, so I didn’t grasp the difference between megabits and megabytes right away. Your Steam downloads around 5 Mbps seem quite solid.

Are you asking about your current internet connection speed?
