Hello everyone, I just assembled a PC for the first time. It performs well until I noticed display problems—either the monitor didn’t show up at all by the GPU or Windows/internet browsers ran under 10 FPS, preventing game loading. Within a day I managed to resolve it, but then it returned. I’ve tried a lot of troubleshooting steps and thought the GPU was the culprit, but after buying a brand-new one it still happened. I’m stuck. Could anyone help clarify what’s going on?

Build details: Motherboard: ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi AM5; CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D; GPU: ASRock Phantom Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XT 20GB; PSU: Cooler Master V850 SFX Gold ATX; SSD: TEAMGROUP MP44Q 4TB; RAM: DDR5 32GB; BIOS updated via flashback.

I’ve reset the BIOS, changed PCIe slots, switched PSU, and even plugged in different monitors without fixing the issue. The problem seems to reset itself after a short time. I’ve also tried booting off and on the machine multiple times, but nothing changes.

Environmental note: I live in a very humid area (>70% humidity). I sometimes touched the PSU while it was powered on, which might have caused a short circuit. The PSU was plugged in but not connected to any device except the pre-build test and first boot.

I’ve checked all hardware connections, settings, and BIOS updates. The display issues appear to reset after a few hours or sessions. I’m unsure if the GPU itself is faulty or if there’s another factor at play. Any insights would be invaluable!

Before the first BSOD, I was checking my system stability and performance. The repeated crashes suggest a memory problem or possibly a faulty motherboard, with RAM being the most likely culprit. I planned to run a memory stress test using tools like MemTest86 or TestMem5, and the results would help confirm the issue. Unstable RAM could also be a factor, as some modern systems slow down noticeably when memory is slightly inconsistent rather than failing outright. The photo you mentioned might be caused by a failing display cable, though that seems less probable given the other troubleshooting steps you've taken. If you have a spare display, swapping it might resolve the problem.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes! Both BSODs happened when I had to press the power button to shut down the computer because there was no display. When I restarted, I still experienced BSODs. This has occurred a total of two times so far, even though I've had to turn off my PC multiple times recently due to the lack of display.

It took some time to get back on track with this issue. I couldn’t run MemTest86 because of a USB problem, and it seems the RAM might be fine since I tested new parts. Still getting no signal from my monitor when connecting to the GPU or motherboard. Could it be the motherboard? Any other steps you could try? I’m planning to rebuild the board now to see if that resolves the problem.

It took some time to refresh the information again. I completely reconfigured my PC using a new motherboard. This time it was a B650E PG Riptide with WiFi. The issue still remains. Before the problem worsened, there were no display problems for less than 24 hours, after which severe performance drops occurred and the monitor would stop working completely. This time I ran MemTest86 and received zero errors across all four attempts for my RAM. I revisited the troubleshooting steps from my original post, including updating the CPU chipset, GPU drivers, and ensuring the BIOS was up to date. I also adjusted power settings and changed the BIOS to high performance mode. After flashing the BIOS, I noticed a short circuit during boot, which resolved after about two minutes. Now the display is gone, and the fans are spinning wildly while the computer makes loud noises every time I power it on. It’s worth noting that many others with similar setups—CPU 7800X3D, GPU 7900 XT, and a B650 board—have reported the same issue. Most of these discussions have been resolved, with the top recommendation being to contact AMD technical support. Anyone have ideas on what to try next? For reference, I shared a 120 FPS build here: https://pcmasterrace.org/builds. I suspect the build wasn’t tested beforehand. I’ll also check the subreddit and see if someone finds a solution.
