It has to be an older model, but that is definitely going to cause problems. It still doesn't tell you exactly what equipment you can buy. Are they sure there isn't a list of approved gear? If you are buying blindly without checking, try the Arris 6190 because it usually works on most ISPs, even though there are no guarantees. That modem supports all forms of DOCSIS 3.0 up to 1 Gbit. It is just a modem; you will need a separate router as well. You can get modem/router combos, but again, you don't know which one the ISP approves for your connection. When the units are separate, you can buy any router you want. The big plus here is that most routers have more features and you aren't the ISP's boss anymore; if a bug pops up or needs fixing, you can upgrade the firmware when you feel like it instead of hoping they patch a problem quickly. .................The internet service provider should have known this right away rather than wasting time sending someone out to fix it, and that person definitely had no idea what kind of modem your device was when they arrived.
Thanks so much for sharing everything. Tomorrow I'm heading over to my cable company's office to check which plan fits best, or I might just ask what they recommend. Thanks again to everyone!
