hey, so I have never used a M.2 SSD before so sorry if this a noob question I have a m.2 Samsung evo 970 ssd and I am using a ASUS B450I Strix motherboard (mini itx) and i have read some things were people have said it will split the pcie lane from x16 to x8 using a m.2 drive. So I am curious if i should switch my ssd to a regular sata or will it be fine? There are 16 lanes for the PCIe port and an additional 4 for the M.2 slot. You'll continue to perform at x16 on your GPU even after installing the M.2 drive.

Ryzen provides four exclusive PCIe connections just for NVMe drives. This upgrade won't influence your graphics card performance.

You mentioned using a B450 motherboard, so I assumed Intel CPUs wouldn't affect the chipset for an NVMe drive. The 16 lanes from the CPU will usually go to your GPU. But if your GPU drops to x8 bandwidth, don't worry about gaming performance unless you're using a 2080 Ti or similar.
