I'm beginning to suspect the issue lies with my PC, possibly in the BIOS or settings. I'll attempt to use MX but prefer having Ubantu. It's simple to find assistance and I have some familiarity with it.
I can share some updates on the situation. It looks like the BIOS might have been defective or a configuration change led to problems. After a fresh clean BIOS installation, live booting works properly. This is unusual since both previous versions were early releases and still caused issues. Once I installed Ubuntu Budge 21.10 in UEFI mode with manually set partitions, I got stuck in GRUB and couldn't locate the boot sector. The `ls` command didn’t help. It seems the EFI partition wasn’t listed during installation—possibly because of a setting in the installer for my 840 Evo. I’ve reinstalled Ubuntu twice, and now I’m managing to create functional EFI partitions, but still can’t boot into the system. I tried updating GRUB with a recovery mode fix, but it failed due to GPU detection errors and other issues. The process feels overly complicated for a mainstream distro, especially when trying to get up and running quickly. It’s late, so I’m ending this now. MX is designed for older rigs, but not the only option available.
