I'm a passionate sim racer. I play games like i Racing, but my PC has been acting sluggish lately. I quickly realized prebuilt systems can be quite disappointing at times. Now I have a Ryzen 3 2200G and an RX 550—though that’s not great. Still, I’m hoping for some good news! My cousin is giving me his machine with an i7 2600 CPU and an RX 580 8GB GPU. My main worries are performance limits and bottlenecks. For games like Rfactor2 and iRacing, which demand heavy CPU power, I’m concerned it might struggle and cause stutters or other issues. Any advice would be appreciated!

According to Steam, the system needs at least Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 with the newest Service Packs. The processor should be 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or 3.0 GHz AMD Athlon II x2. RAM must be 4 GB. Graphics options include nVidia GTS 450 or AMD Radeon 5750, and DirectX version 9.0c. A broadband internet connection is required, with 30 GB of available space. The sound card needs to support DirectX. It should satisfy these basics, though a second-generation Intel CPU might cause some issues.

You're right to anticipate some challenges, but it seems to meet the required standards. What configurations might work best given those specifications?

I begin with low settings on everything, and gradually increase them as the game performs better until you're not satisfied. Then I reduce them again. This approach has worked for a few games I tested on systems that didn’t fully meet the requirements.

The 2200G and 2600 models perform similarly, though the older design of the 2600 might result in slightly reduced speed. The most accurate comparison would be using the 580 in the 2200G and see the results. You can expect a modest drop in FPS (average and peak), but it shouldn't be significant. EDIT; missed sharing the link to the bench! https://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/2105?vs=287 Edited August 7, 2020 by wkdpaul
