I've been using the Acer Nitro 5 with an i7-8750H and GTX 1060. Recently, I noticed a performance issue while playing games like Rainbow Six or Destiny 2. The frame rate would jump to around 90-130 FPS, then suddenly drop to 12-30 FPS for a few seconds before recovering. This happens abruptly, especially during encounters with enemies or when there are many mobs. After some digging, I discovered the CPU stays at full load during gameplay, but usage drops to about 13-30% when FPS falls, while GPU usage remains steady between 40-70%.

I play Rainbow Six at low-medium settings with maximum render distance, and Destiny 2 varies from low to high settings. I’m puzzled by the lag. Have others experienced this? Any solutions have been found? Thanks in advance!

P.S.: My temperatures during gaming are around 80-90°C on the CPU and 70-85°C on the GPU. I also noticed that turning fans to maximum with CoolBoost causes frequent lag, but it still happens sometimes. Running Rainbow Six at high presets gives better stability than custom low settings, even when lag is severe (drops to 5-10 FPS). I’ve tried several fixes: restarting the laptop, updating drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling games, removing Steam, doing a factory reset, and running everything from an SSD. I'll give it a shot, though it might be tricky. I don't have cooling pads or thermal paste, and I need to stick to the warranty. Let's see what we can do!
