Hey everyone, I got my friends' laptop today and he handed it over so I could install a new operating system. After booting from the CD, I cleared all partitions and formatted everything, making it nearly impossible to find any files left on the drive. Once installed, I started up with a login screen asking for a username and password, even though I hadn't set one. I tried it three times now. The only thing I noticed is that Wi-Fi drivers are still present because the settings let me connect to the internet. But I can't access the main system. Hope my explanation makes sense!

OK I think I understand you, you what to do a fresh install of windows? on a laptop, then you need a copy of the OS either on CD or USB and what you what to do is go to the laptops Bios and set it so the laptop will look at for the CD or USB first before the HHD/SSD then reboot and with your CD/USB in the drive/plugged in a usb port and the install programe should start, follow the install instructions on screen and should be done over time. You may get the option to format the HHD/SSD before installing the OS. I presume you have a copy of Windows. This is just a basic way of doing it but if you know what OS you got and what your going to install then you could get a better step by step way of doing it online

This approach was incorrect. Clean it up, then begin anew and install Windows from the CD.
