I’m facing an issue with my ISP connection—WiFi and Ethernet speeds are much lower than expected. I’ve tried resetting the equipment and contacting support, but they only ask me to run a speed test right after a reset, which then fails after about ten minutes. I’m stuck with Virgin Media and can’t afford to keep spending money. I’ve connected four Ethernet cables and have roughly 10-15 devices using both WiFi and Ethernet at the same time. Everything seems to be a coaxial cable setup on an all-in-one router. Please let me know if you’d like a photo.

Ensure your modem (the device that connects the coax cable) is compatible with speeds of 3.1 or 3.0. Verify your router (the internet-connected unit) is also up to date. If you have a combo unit, both functions are integrated. Confirm it supports the required speeds. Contact your ISP and request a technician—avoid paying them unless they can confirm your setup works. Check device settings first. Good luck!

I’ve been calling Virgin Media several times, and their speed test works fine after resting. But about an hour later, I’m back to the same issue. This keeps happening for months now—I really dislike them.

Inform them clearly. It functions effectively for roughly half an hour following a reset. If they respond with "deal with it," insist they either offset the pricing difference between your paid items and their delivery, request a new unit, or send a technician to resolve the issue.

I'm switching providers and my ISP said prices will rise by £58 without any reason. Since I want to leave early, I'm looking for a 1GB fiber connection and need advice on picking a router.

Speed relates to data transfer and packet delays. Delays may stem from lost packets (requiring retransmission) and/or long acknowledgment times. A sluggish DNS server can also contribute. Slowness can be tracked within your network, across your internal systems, and on the wider internet. Learn how to assess them and you'll identify the cause—whether it's your local setup or your internet provider. Begin at one point and analyze step by step.
