Your i5-10600KF isn't running smoothly—scores are poor, GPU activity is minimal, and frame rates drop during games.
I'm facing an issue with my I5-10600KF. It's showing a very low Cinebench R20 score of 3503 in a multicore test, which results in minimal GPU activity during gaming (40%-50%) and high CPU usage (around 80% and 90%). The power consumption stays under 100 watts, far below its usual TDP of over 125W. Temperatures remain within safe limits, never going above 75°C. While my Cinebench R20 was well above 11k in the multicore test, recently the CPU performance has dropped noticeably—especially during games where GPU usage was low and CPU usage spiked. I've only used XMP profiles and haven't adjusted BIOS settings. I couldn't find a solution online. Could anyone assist? My specs are: Intel I5-10600KF 6 cores, 12 threads, Cooler Master Hyper 212 Gigabyte Z490 Gaming, 32GB RAM at 3200MHz (4x4), XMP enabled, MSI RTX 3060 TI Ventus, 2x Corsair 650W. Updated: fixed issue—BIOS update from F22B/F22 to F21 resolved it, now CPU usage is 45-65% and GPU runs at full capacity (98-100%). Edited September 1, 2023 by FeiTanXV
If you've set up any MSI control tools, remove them. If issues persist while gaming, enable ThrottleStop and activate the Log File feature. Please attach a log file to your upcoming post and display the FIVR and TPL windows so I can review your configuration. Your Cinebench R20 results are typical for a 10600K. The CPU operates at maximum during that benchmark. https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/in...iew,8.html You should have been running R23. Performance in R23 is significantly better than in R20.
Thanks a lot for your response. I installed MSI App Center but the issue persists—low GPU usage and high CPU consumption. You can review the latest screenshot from Last of Us if helpful. All the files you requested are attached. Thank you for your assistance! 2023-08-27.txt
The log indicates all 6 cores and 6 hyper threads are operating at 100% utilization, which is atypical. I assumed the CPU might be throttling but it appears to be functioning normally. Check the Task Manager or use Process Explorer to verify background processes other than your game. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysint...s-explorer The issue likely lies with the game itself. Have you received any recent updates? Could background mining software be launching when you start the game? That’s just a wild hypothesis. Overloading the CPU may hinder GPU performance. Have you tried running other applications? Do they experience similar problems? Did you restart after uninstalling MSI Control Center?
@unclewebb You're welcome again for your reply, that means a lot. I downloaded the process explorer and everything looks okay except the game is only using a small portion of the CPU power. I searched online for "system idle process" to see what free CPU capacity is available. It seems like the system is idle with no other heavy tasks running. I suspect there might not be any mining software active. When I first noticed the issue, I assumed it was due to a system or driver problem, so I reformatted the SSD three times and reinstalled Windows (both 10 and 11 with latest updates). I've tried many other games on this list: The Last of Us Part I, Dead Island 2, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales, Forspoken, Hogwarts Legacy, Days Gone, Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Resident Evil 4, Ratchet & Clank, and Rift Apart. All of them performed well with high GPU usage and high FPS before the problem started. After uninstalling the MSI control center, I rebooted. I'm wondering if this could be a hardware issue—something like a CPU failure—that would limit performance. It's hard to imagine such a significant drop from 11k to 3k without a software or system malfunction.
The score drops from 11K to 3K. No 10600KF on the planet has ever achieved 11K in Cinebench R20. You seem to be using Cinebench R23 instead. Your 10850K runs with 10 cores at 5000 MHz and only gets 6539 in Cinebench R20. That result is typical for your CPU setup. Try downloading and running Cinebench R23 for better stats. If you're playing a game and press ALT+TAB to the desktop, you might not see background processes. They'll likely stop when you return. You'd need a second monitor to monitor what's running. Your game consumes over 6% CPU during active play. If this happens with many games, consider uninstalling the Nvidia driver and installing an older version. Just install the basic driver without the extra bloat.
That sounds typical. At 90% CPU usage, the GPU won’t be heavily strained. If performance drops further, it’s unclear without comparisons to the same CPU model or version. Could you clarify which specific CPU or chipset you’re referring to? (Apologies if I overlooked that) *20, why are you relying on an old benchmark?*
@Mark Kaine Thank you for your reply. The sir in the comment above yours explains and now i understand that my CPU is just fine, but the the low GPU usage and the high CPU usage still remains ( you can check TLOU screenshot above).
