You're thinking about purchasing a motherboard and considering the B450M Steel Legend as an alternative if you're unsure about the current one.

It's decent, but what kind of power source are you using? It's not top-notch, and unless you're working on a very tight budget, I'd recommend something better. What board are you powering?

I'll estimate around $150 under or slightly over with a 550W rating.

For the board, I'm asking about the CPU type you're using. Regarding the B450, it's compatible with Tomahawk, Pro Max (non-M), Mortar Max, and all 12-core setups work well—just ensure proper airflow to the VRM. The Pro 4 and Steel Legend can manage an 8-core setup comfortably, though a 12-core might be challenging for them. The Pro VDH Max supports 8 cores and should handle it too, though I'm not certain about its full performance. For the B550, a Mortar should cost about $140-160 and work with 12/16 cores. The B550 VDH will also support 12 cores, matching the Tomahawk's VRM capabilities. The X570-P is available for around $160 and supports 12/16 cores, though it may be missing some features.

Confirming $150 price. Apologies, I assumed you meant the PSU. CPU is Ryzen 3 3200G. Upgrading to Ryzen 7 later.

It seems the b550 isn't viable. The other b450 models should handle an 8-core setup effortlessly.

You might want a value board for your B450 Pro4.
