I'm handling a modest Minecraft setup for a few friends and want to ensure everything is secure. I already have a firewall with intrusion prevention that blocks threats before they reach open ports. That’s not my main worry. My focus is on potential security issues with running a Minecraft server and making sure I’m configured correctly. Also, I’m hosting it publicly on a domain known to some users. Here’s how it’s set up: firewall (IPs, forwarding only port 25565) → Minecraft server (ports 25565 and 22, with SSH keys). Sure, it’s just a VM with Minecraft and nothing else, but I also have other devices on my network (not mine) that I’m a bit concerned about. My old Windows 7 machine is hosting it, and I’m confident its firewall settings are proper. Are there any specific security gateways recommended for Minecraft servers, or is this just a general setup? I’m trying to be extra cautious because I’d rather avoid any issues than explain to others their systems are compromised. Honestly, I might be overthinking it, but is this acceptable?
