I've got a high-end GPU setup with a 3080 and 7800X3D, paired with a 32GB RAM and two monitors. Recently, my gaming performance hasn't been as smooth as I hoped—especially in titles like Cyberpunk 2077 where I'm only managing around 80 FPS. I've experimented with DLSS and without it, but the frame rates stay around 60 or lower. With my monitors set up this way, I'm wondering if this is normal and whether a GPU upgrade is necessary soon. I want to aim for about 100 FPS without relying on DLSS, and I'm curious how others handled similar setups back then when DLSS didn't exist. It's a bit confusing with all the changes.
Most players are still using machines with weaker capabilities than yours. You should last another 3 to 5 years before facing a major issue. The 3080 might be a bit outdated compared to others, but it remains a capable card. This isn't a good reference. Cyberpunk 2077 is so poorly optimized that you should be pleased to achieve 60 fps on any setup. At 80 fps and 1440p, your machine is definitely powerful. To reach 165 fps at 1440p with Cyberpunk 2077, you’ll likely need a powerful GPU and possibly some upgrades. They seem to have skipped Cyberpunk 2077. Many titles can run smoothly at over 400 fps if you don’t restrict them. However, some games will struggle more due to complex features and inefficient code. For instance, a well-optimized game like Doom Eternal should handle 165 fps at Ultra Nightmare settings. Hope this helps!
I'll analyze more titles since I just wrapped up the prologue in Cyberpuink and fell asleep in my bed for the first time. From the balcony, I'm experiencing 60FPS with DLSS.
You're missing 1440p. Your screen resolution is much higher than that. Game optimizations have taken a hit, and things have really slowed down. It's not that games used to run smoothly—now tools like DLSS, FSR, and XSS are barely keeping up. A 3080 at 3440x1440 needs a serious push, especially since Nvidia adjusted the project stack recently.
I see, it's not just 1440p but not quite 4k. I think I'll try DLSS. In BF6 it doesn't work well because it makes things look blurry at a distance, like when I use a tank.
