Hello everyone, I'm facing an issue with my RX6600. Sometimes it freezes the whole screen at random, then quickly restarts the video driver or something similar. After a short time it seems normal again, but it happens. I've tried various driver updates and swapped almost every component on my PC, including RAM, CPU, power supply, motherboard, SSD, etc. The Event Viewer shows a critical error at 41 kernel -power. Despite doing basic troubleshooting like a fresh Windows install, nothing seems to work. My system specs are: CPU Ryzen 5 5500, GPU XFX RX 6600, RAM 2x8 GB DDR4, motherboard B450M by Gigabyte, PSU EVGA 650W 80+ gold.
Even when each part is replaced with a known working one, the issue remains. This suggests a few potential causes, which you’ve likely already addressed—testing the power supply first. The error code usually points to a voltage issue reaching the graphics card, often fixed by swapping out the power supply or confirming the 9V rail and cables are secure. Regarding the operating system, if you’re using Windows 11 24h2, consider reverting to Windows 11 23h2. Some newer versions might have compatibility problems with certain hardware setups. If your GPU is larger, its weight can sometimes shift the card, leading to PCIe port contact problems. An anti-sag device may help stabilize it. Let me know how you’re handling this, and I’ll look into what’s happening.
I actually got a new power supply, but haven't really opened it since Im waiting on a new case to arrive aswell, but I'll try and swap it to see if thats the problem, will update soon
I ran some tests with the new PSU and just experienced the first freeze of the day. It seems to have froze twice, about 10 to 20 seconds each time—screen went black then back to normal. I wish I could log these moments but they happen unpredictably, maybe during boot or gaming sessions. I also checked Windows 10 and 11, but the same problem appears. It doesn’t look like an OS issue, the PCIe port works fine, it’s a two-fan graphics card, not too heavy to cause trouble.
Have you checked each RAM module individually? It’s possible one is only showing issues under light stress. If not, I’d want to reassure you about the board.
