Turn off, sleep, or put your computer into hibernation - Microsoft Support Learn how to do these things at support.microsoft.com This feature was made for laptops and might not work on every computer. (For instance, computers with InstantGo don't have this option.) Hibernation uses less power than sleep, and when you turn the PC back on, you are right where you left off (though it's slower than sleep). Use hibernation if you know you won't be using your laptop or tablet for a long time and won't get a chance to charge the battery during that time. First check to see if this option is available on your computer and if so, turn it on.
My laptop will enter hibernation if I do it manually from the start menu, and also when pressing the power button. A third-party timer can make this work too. The system does not lack this feature; it simply won't sleep or go to hibernate after x minutes of inactivity even though Power Options says it should.
