I sometimes pretend to be responsible and shut down my computer at night while I rest. During those times I notice it powers back on unexpectedly. Previously, my machine would turn off suddenly while I was using it; the cause remained unclear but it didn’t occur again. Once I pressed the power button it wouldn’t activate, so I had to reattach the power cable to the motherboard. Recently it turned on at the wrong time—12:17 a.m.—but displayed 9:55 p.m., which confused me. I’m not sure what might be causing this. Help needed.

My main thought is heat causes materials to expand, possibly triggering the power switch or similar action.

If it wasn’t already off and just in a sleeping state, it might be able to handle the update. On a late Tuesday night, it’s likely Windows is updating. Otherwise, do you know any effective exorcists?

I've faced numerous problems with sleep settings. The gaming rig would turn off and on unpredictably, sometimes completely. The newer model attempts to sleep and wake randomly but still consumes 12-15+ watts without sleeping. I set it to hibernate, though Windows resists this on AC. I had to restore registry settings to make it work. Until now, I left the machine running continuously, but now batteries are draining fast. I'm trying to improve its runtime.
