Hello everyone! I just shared this update: I now have the date, so I’d like your input. In May I received an external hard drive, and whenever I connected it, my PC would shut down instantly—like a USB killer. During summer, I noticed this also occurred while playing in VR; sometimes after a few minutes inside, the PC would power off. Usually a restart resolved it, but over time it became harder to play in VR. The PC would crash right when I put on the headset, and rebooting didn’t help. It would restart randomly at times. Starting in September, this problem appeared while playing Star Wars Battlefront II 2017. It might happen in any tough game, though. I’ve played a lot of GTA IV through Xenia without issues, but it can be frustrating to get my PC to boot again—sometimes it shuts down just by launching Windows, and I end up on the desktop. I updated my BIOS last summer (it hadn’t changed since 2019), thinking the motherboard might be the cause. But nothing changed. The slow decline in performance makes me wonder about my PSU. I also heard a high-pitched whistling sound even when the PC was off, like in the video—it stops a few seconds after unplugging it from the wall. I’m not sure if that noise is normal. I’ve attached a log from HWInfo64 showing the crashes during Star Wars Battlefront II. What are your thoughts? Could the problem be with my PSU? Here’s my setup: PSU: Goldmaster MWE 650 Gold MB: ASUS TUF B450-PLUS GAMINGASUS b450 CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x RAM: kingston khx3200c16d4/8gx (x2) GPU: RTX 2080 (plus 1 SSD and 3 HDDs). Thank you all!
When I mention my PC shuts down, I mean it powers down completely. I’ve grown tired of using "turn off" and instead found another way to get it back online without needing to touch the PSU switch. Just unplugging it from the wall and letting it sit for 10–20 minutes can prevent crashes during startup. Appreciate your feedback!
