Your computer shuts down unexpectedly.
Hello, occasionally when I play Fortnite my computer restarts itself. This happens only during gameplay and not when using other programs or the PC regularly. Recently I installed a new CPU cooler because my previous one wasn’t cooling my CPU well while playing Spider-Man. Now the area around it isn’t hot and everything seems normal until I start Fortnite for a while. I suspect the motherboard might be overheating. I checked the system status and it logged an event related to kernel power tasks, but temperatures look fine overall. I’m not an expert, but everything appears okay. My components are: CPU – Intel Core i9-9900K @ 3.60GHz, 3600MHz, 8 cores; RAM – 16GB; Motherboard – MPG Z390M GAMING EDGE AC; GPU – Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080; Cooler – Phantom Spirit 120 SE; Case – 275mm airflow with tempered glass. If it just happens in fortnite, and not other games, then I doubt that it is a hardware issue. Can you give us more details: What temps does the CPU and GPU reach? What other games do you play that have no isses? What steps have you taken to troubleshoot this issue? (Have you tried reinstalling fortnite? I assume you have but I have to ask) What are your computers components?
I haven't reinstalled the game yet, I'll give it another shot now. I played Spider-Man remastered, Rocket League, and used a PC with the specified components: Intel i9-9900K, 3600 MHz, 8 cores, 16 threads, MPG Z390M motherboard, Nvidia RTX 2080, Phantom Spirit cooler, Corsair fan, and a 275mm airflow case.
Beyond mere readings, what achievements are you accomplishing during gameplay?
It's a budget low-end PSU that doesn't provide much power, making Fortnite challenging since it can strain the CPU if your GPU isn't strong enough. You're likely asking for too much from the hardware. If you decide to cap at 60fps or lower the CPU and GPU speeds slightly, it should prevent the system from shutting down unexpectedly.
