while playing gta 5 on your i3-4170 with integrated graphics and 8gb ram, you notice unusual smells and a sudden increase in heat. After letting the system cool for about 30 minutes, it still smells and won’t start up properly even after shutdown. Your motherboard looks fine. This could indicate overheating issues or thermal paste degradation. It might be wise to check the thermal paste application.

It seems you might have damaged a capacitor or a chip. Take a close look at your PC's motherboard for any black or brown spots—this could be easy to spot. Also inspect your power supply unit; it’s possible there’s a short or issue with the PSU. Don’t forget to verify the thermal paste application. Were you running power-hungry tasks like playing a high-end game or using Blender? Let me know if anyone else can offer further suggestions.

It seems the odor might have been from burning plastic or rubber rather than rubber itself. The smell could also be similar to a hot or unusual chemical scent.

I inspect each section of my motherboard and it seems undamaged, though perhaps cleaning the thermal paste could help resolve the issue. Hehe!

It seems your PSU might be putting in a lot of effort, almost as if it were trying to tackle a challenging game like GTA.
